DAY 20: HOMESTAY AND BACK TO PUNO

This morning Mia and I woke up to the sound of Aldo and Freddys playing outside our room with the balls that we brought them! I looked through the window and Freddys quickly smiled and waved at us. Since it took us (me) a while to get out of the room he started hitting our door with the ball (I'm assuming for us to hurry up a little.)
Once we were ready we went to the kitchen where Juana had our breakfast ready. We had a hard boiled egg with some kind of fried bread.
It's amazing to see how different Aldo, the 23 month old, behaves compared to the kids I babysit. They have no zippy cups, or high chairs, or baby sized spoons, or any of the baby stuff we have! Last night for dinner he ate with a big spoon like anybody else and drank from a regular cup and when he was thirsty he went to the bucket and got himself more water. I really admired his independence and even though he had only a few words he could do most of the things he needed by himself. The funniest thing was to see him around the kitchen, there was an open flame and there was zero baby proofing around but he knew what he could or could not do.
This morning we all got a hard boiled egg and he peeled his own... Super cute!

Here he is before heading to school :-)

After having breakfast we were ready to help Delfin with his chore... DIGGING POTATOES!!
Peru has over 4,000 kinds of potatoes and they have them with every single meal! I think that if a meal doesn't have potatoes it's not considered a meal! Haha
So today Mia, Delfin, and I dug for potatoes in the morning. Delfin had the biggest pick and he did the initial digging. Mia and I were behind him with our smaller picks and had to dig for potatoes. Most of the potatoes were on the surface but some of them were deep in the roots. It wasn't like the hardest job but my back hurt after a while.

When we were done digging for potatoes Delfin, Mia, and I sat down and sorted the potatoes into big/ good looking ones, small, and the bad ones for the chancho (the pig)
Mia with all the sorted potatoes
And Juana modeling ;-)
Jason and Jai herding the sheep (I think)

After a hard morning of work we were ready for lunch... Soup and a potato dish with rice. Once we were done with lunch we thanked our family and headed back to the lake where we met with the group.

The rest of the day we spent it relaxing in Puno before taking a 7 hr bus ride to Bolivia!!!
